By Cyndi Allison – Blog Profit Accelerator Review

If you want to speak to the world today, then you really need to learn how to make a blog and one that will attract attention and readers.

Individuals and companies know that blogs can be powerful tools, but many are not sure exactly how to make a blog. In fact, creating a blog today is super simple.

Blog Platforms

There are two major blogging platforms or spaces where you can go to get started blogging. Those are Blogger and Wordpress, and both are free.

Blogger Blogs

Blogger, owned, by Google is a very basic blog platform with the most recent post listed at the top followed by a string of posts in order of publication such as at Barbecue Master. Blogger is in a two column format, although both free and paid templates can be uploaded to get more columns and for background customizations.

In addition, Google currently has a more robust design with three columns and a larger selection of backgrounds including custom options in beta for testing. Once the new options are rolled out, it will be possible to easily create fancier looking blogs at Blogger.

One plus with using Blogger is that blogs on Blogger can be monetized. Bloggers can run Google AdSense ads as well as affiliate ads including Amazon product ads.

WordPress Blogs

WordPress offers more robust options, and WP blogs can be customized so that it is difficult for a novice to identify that a blog platform is being used rather than actual web page design software. Catawba College recently shifted the student newspaper online to WordPress, and The Pioneer newspaper shows some of the many options for design in WordPress.

Unlike Blogger, Wordpress does not allow monetization. In other words, you can’t place ads of any type on a WordPress blog, unless you buy a host domain and shift the blog off the WordPress platform. The WP software can be used to create the blog, but anyone blogging to make money will have to find a host before including advertisements.

How to Make a Blog

Once a decision is made about which host to use (Blogger or WordPress), the initial set up is super simple. Just go to the home page and click the orange Create a Blog button at Blogger or the Sign Up Now button to the right at WordPress.

In both cases, the blog set up site pages involve clicking various options to build the blog. Setting up a blog is quite similar to installing new software. Just follow the directions step by step through completion. And, remember that choices are not set in stone. A blogger can go back to the dashboard later and make changes as needed or wanted.

After the Blog Set Up is Complete

Once the blog is set up, the blogger can immediately begin to write and post materials as well as add photos and videos. Blogger makes this especially easy, although it does not take long to master the slightly more complex WordPress set up.

Getting More Creative with a Blog

Most bloggers like to get a little (or a lot) fancier with blogs, and there are loads of widgets that can be added ranging from photo rotators to search word clouds and animated graphics. In some cases, bloggers learn additional HTML and make their own creations like the fancy header bars while others copy and paste free widgets readily available online or hire out custom design work for the blog.

Time to Start Blogging

Earlier on it was difficult to get online. Advanced level skills were required to build pages and have an online presence. Now it is very easy to set up and maintain a blog. Blogging is as simple as pressing a few buttons and then adding materials.

WordPress Autoblog Tools

By | Aug 12, 2010

Here are some of my favorite Wordpress plugins that automate various tasks for bloggers. They’ll save you some time in running your blog and they’ll increase your results, all on autopilot.

By the way, this article comes to you from Automatic Blogging Tools – AutomaticBlogTools.com

TagPiG is an auto-tagging plugin for WordPress.

Onlywire – After you register the social bookmarking sites you’ve joined, Onlywire will notify them of your posts. After each post you write, you use their easy form to tell Onlywire and they do the rest. You can either use the Onlywire plugin (”Bookmark & Share”, below every post on this blog) or you can use their option #4 which I’ve also done here – see the Onlywire link in my footer here. Copy the code if you wish – it pre-populates the Onlywire submission form with your tags as well as URL + page title.

Automatic backups hourly, daily or weekly – An excellent tutorial on how to do this! You can get a copy of the backup emailed to you. I have the files sent to a free Gmail account that I use for that purpose only. If I ever need the backups, I’ll login to that Gmail account and grab them – no need to clutter my hard disk or my server.

Automatically insert pictures into your blog posts – Just type the blog post as usual, and then this Acobox plugin will make the pictures matching your post topic appear automatically. Select the one you want. Saves you the time searching for a related image.

Peter’s Random Anti Spam Plugin forces users to identify a random word displayed as an image in order to block spambots that cannot read your image. This antispam plugin is highly effective and dead easy to use (upload then activate, that’s all).

Google XML Sitemaps Generator – A must have “Google submitter” that is now fully automated. Set this up then every time you post, Google and the other big search engines will be automatically informed.

RSS Feeds Submitter – Submit your blogs and RSS feeds to 58 of the most popular search engine and directories, automatically. Enter your URL & your email address, and it does the rest. Neato.

Ozh Admin Drop Down Menu – A real time saver. Every feature of your WP blog is available with ONE CLICK. Is regularly updated as WP brings out new versions.

RSS Footer – Install this plugin and you wont be worried about people using your blog content. In fact, you will hope they do – because in the footer will be a link back to your blog. Fully customizable.

Turn your keywords into hyperlinks – KB Linker will link phrases you specify to sites you specify. For example, you could make it so that whenever “autoblogging” occurs in a post it is automatically linked to automaticblogtools.com (thanks!).

StatCounter- Not a plugin but definitely an automation tool. Set-up is quick enough but note that you cant copy the same code onto all your blogs as each blog requires a different set of ID/security numbers from them. However once set up, you can have them email your traffic results once a week. That’s what I like. Can be invisible on your site… as it is here.

3 Ways To Increase Website Traffic For Free

By | Aug 3, 2010

Everyone is trying to make money online and the best way to do that is to increase the amount of traffic coming to your website or blog. You do not actually need a website or blog to make money, but it really helps and you can start one without any experience or money at wordpress.com. It is important to first mention that before you begin increasing traffic you will need to have a decent website that will be of some use to the visitors you are trying to get. Anyway let’s move onto the different ways to increase free web traffic.

1. The first and best way to increase free traffic is creating content worth looking at. This is difficult for the majority of webmasters and bloggers, but is something that if done correctly can bring you thousands of backlinks and even more visitors. As visitors swarm your website they will see how hard you have worked to produce the content and share it with their friends and family leading to a viral affect really helping to boost your sales. To understand how to write for the web I highly recommend reading the blog Copy Blogger which covers different writing techniques. You can also research how to create “link bait” there are plenty of great articles covering how to gain links and traffic without having to do nearly as much work.

2. The second way to increase web traffic for free is SEO which people spend a lot of money on. You do not need to spend any money and after a while of learning you will probably know more than the people selling SEO services. To learn SEO it is important to join a webmaster forum (v7n.com/forums) is my personal favorite. This will allow you to discuss the changing search structure and algorithms with other experienced webmasters. There are also many different blogs which specialize in SEO some of the blogs worth looking at are SEO Book, SEO Moz, and Hubspot. These have all helped teach me online strategies which boosted my search engine ranking. The key to great rankings within search engines is having great keyword rich content and plenty of quality backlinks. These two together will push you to the top.

3. The last free way to increase web traffic is through social marketing. Social websites have actually become the most popular type of website on the net. There are millions of potential customers and clients that spend their time on social websites. The only problem I have found is the majority of social websites do not allow you to promote yourself or your website when on their site. To get around this you must know the rules quite well and also be creative. Rather than promoting directly to people place your projects on your profile and begin networking. Try your best not to spam and there is a fine line between promotion and spam so be really careful when promoting on these platforms.
